To Emulate is the Sincerest Form of Flattery

Part 1

Part 2

StickHead is an Atari ST gaming nut and has been one ever since he received his Atari ST one Christmas morn. His ST has sat alongside a Super Nintendo, Playstation, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast and four XBoxes (thanks Microsoft) and has outlasted them all and never played second fiddle. Join him and his little beige beauty on a nostalgic romp through a wondrously diverse gaming back-catalogue.

    I think I would have to say it’s got to be real hardware for me. Having to play The Games: Summer Edition on an old x-box controller would not elicit the same amount of fun and exhaustion as it would playing it on a Zipstick! Or playing Gauntlet Legends on a PC keyboard wouldn’t be the same as trying to get to grips with the N64 controller! Talking of keys, how could you possibly play Daley Thompson’s Decathlon without the rubber keypad of a 48K? And finally where would your collection of those credit card size HuCards be if you were to just emulate the PC Engine?!
    But then on the other hand, without emulation, I would never have played Warlords and had such an amazing side splitting time!

      Yes, the general consensus is emulation for convenience, but overwhelming support for real hardware if at all possible. I was surprised that quite a few hardcore collectors are quite accepting of emulation. I’m not sure why, but I was expecting some kind of Puritan vehemence.

      The idea of playing Daley Thompson on the rubber keys gives me cold chills. It was hard enough on a joystick! And the HuCards are rather delicious, aren’t they?

      Warlords = funniest game ever.

    Certainly if played amongst friends, thanks.
